Project History

The project started in 2008 at the Savannah College of Art and Design’s Atlanta Campus. During this year the project’s creator and founding member, Matt Canei,  would go through the tragic loss of his mother due to cancer. It is this very event which Matt would use to start the creation of this game in honor of his mother and thus, the project Hanako was born. Later in that year two other members, Ajani Thomas and Connor McCarthy, would join the team and the three would become close friends working together on making this game become a reality.

Over the years the project has taken its fair share of twists and turns but always it lived on. This very website and all of it’s contents is proof of how this game continually inspires people to never give up. Although members have come and gone, each has brought with them or taken away something new. What was once a project solely to honor the memory of a lost loved has grown like a tree to encompass so many dreams and visions. It is due to this very nature of both the game and the team that this project will be completed.

On behalf of loved ones lost, members past or present, Matt, Ajani, and Connor, we’d like to thank you for taking the time to support our dream.
